Work personally with Ian on your Job Search. This program gets you fully ready to enter the job market on your own. Here is what we cover together:

1. Capture your starting position and define your next career step
It sounds obvious, but you need start with understanding what you are truly after with this career transition, what the parameters or boundaries of your transition are, and your personal and professional situation relative to your goal. (Week 1)

2. Analyze your professional background, including your accomplishments, strengths, skills and abilities
Unbelievably, few people take the time to really analyze where they have been professionally. In Step 2, you will find and refine the real stories of where you have achieved and accomplished. Where you have made a difference so far in your professional life. Analyze your strengths, skills and abilities. [Why is this important? Read on…] (Weeks 2-3)

3. Understand in which kinds of jobs, teams, organizations and industries you fit
Fit is HUGE. For most hiring decisions, fit is the final tie-breaker after a short-list of qualified candidates has been identified. And, don’t forget this: Your chances of succeeding in a job, team, organization and industry increase significantly when you fit. Building on the information in Step 2, you will develop a clear picture of where you do and don’t fit. (Week 4)

4. Develop a target, or targets for the specific kinds of opportunities you are seeking
Turn that understanding and your interests into one or more target markets. If you already have targets, you will sharpen them. If you aren’t clear what your targets are, you will work through a process to help define what they could be, based on your interests, based on fit, and based on which hiring markets will likely value what you have to offer. (Weeks 5-6)

5. Craft a crystal clear idea and persuasive reasons why you make an excellent candidate for your target(s)
You need to anticipate and answer the question “why you?”. Armed with your work from steps 1-4, you will be ready to do that. Connect the dots between your target and what you offer with a series of specific reasons and proof of why you are an excellent fit. (Week 7)

6. Create an effective, focused, compelling, proof-based resume that shows the reader “why you?”
Define your strategy and with the outcome based stories you have created and fit information you have uncovered, create a powerful resume that showcases what you have to offer and delivers proof. (Week 8)

7. Master the art & science of interviewing (including the ability to prove your candidacy when faced with behavioural-based interview questions) and prepare for effective networking conversations
Turn your hard work in steps 1-6 into authentic, persuasive and compelling interviewing performance. In this important module, you will put it together by developing your ability to sell yourself and prove your candidacy. (Weeks 9-10)

8. And, carefully define your criteria for making a decision when the time comes.
Your careful preparation is wasted if you don’t make a smart decision. Too many people say yes to the wrong opportunities. Develop the ability to recognize when you should walk away from an opportunity and how to go about making an informed decision. (Week 10)
